Space opera is subgenre of ScienceFiction that emphasizes romantic adventure and space battles where the main storyline is interstellar conflict and character drama. FasterThanLight? travel is a common staple of SpaceOpera (being a necessary plot device, without which the drama of SpaceOpera cannot occur).

StarWars is a cinematic instance of a SpaceOpera.
