Some years ago there was a story in CanadianGeographicMagazine? of a polar bear wandering into Churchill, Manitoba (on the shore of Hudson Bay) and coming upon a dog chained to a post in the ground. There was no possible escape for the dog.
When the bear got close enough, the dog crouched down on its forelegs with it’s rear end raised (the universal canine indicator for “let’s play”). The bear then played and romped with the dog, and eventually wandered off again.
Reading the rules on DiscussionWithAnAlaskanGrizzlyBear made me think that there’s more than one way to disarm a bear (or bear-like colleague). Not that I think I’d be capable of feigning play with a grizzly.
