Nygaard died of a heart attack Saturday, 2002 August 9, in Oslo.

Kristen Nygaard, co-creator of Simula 67, with OleJohanDahl for which they received the TuringAward in 2001. The co-inventor of ObjectOrientedProgramming.

Also developed (with others) the BetaLanguage.
