Greg Bear

Greg Bear is the author of twenty-seven books of science fiction and fantasy, married to Astrid Anderson Bear (the daughter of PoulAnderson) and the father of two, Erik and Alexandra. He has been awarded two Hugos and four Nebulas for his fiction, one of two authors to win a Nebula in every category. He has been called the "Best working writer of hard science fiction" by "The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Science Fiction." His last novel, DARWIN'S RADIO, a novel about human evolution, has been nominated for the Hugo Award. His new novel, ROGUE PLANET, a new episode in the Star Wars saga, is now available!

Hardly his last novel. He's still alive! ;)

His stuff is really awesome if you like "hard" ScienceFiction (emphasis on science).

His best work is often considered to be "Blood Music", which inspired (along with Asimov's "Fantastic Voyage") the episode of Futurama "Parasites Lost."

Strange.. Blood Music is well known and an excellent work, but most of the fans that I know consider _Eon_ to be his magnum opus -- ChuckAdams

An (incomplete) Greg Bear bibliography (I found a better one from googling, but no time to put it in right now):
