Word Play

A game that any of us can engage. We all breathe tease and exceed our own fake. We cast our fake to the windows. what makes language so la ti do? supposedly structured? eyes cannot connote other eaters do the same. (Mau Mau Starter Ching Ching Dada.)

It's my theory that a lot about a nation's population/subpopulations can be garnered from reactions to WordPlay or puns. e.g. total lack of recognition, groaning and eye-rolling, mildly signifying recognition, perhaps with a short polite laugh, etc. Amongst other things, whether they possess a sense of humour or not. Just my 2c worth.

I'd like to hear an example of how you came to apply that theory to entire countries. It sounds slightly plausible for individuals, but I can't imagine applying it to entire nations. The only examples I can think of are that Germans are often stereotyped to be humorless, and that British humour is often regarded as being of a higher refinement than American humor.

Humour? I hardly even know 'er!

Well, to give a concrete eggs ham ple, the above word play was shown to a group of non-English speaking Germans, and a group of English people. The germans just looked blankly, one said “zis is english, nicht?”, but no other reaction was recorded.

The reaction of the English group ranged from stuffled laughs to Titus Groans. This proves beyond any doubt that Germans are humourless. All the English group agreed with this conclusion, and none of the Germans objected.
