Also (completely independent meaning, AFAIK) a hacker/security research with good intent. The WhiteHat may annoy some by probing a system's security (or breaking into it altogether) or by publishing an exploit; but the purpose of the WhiteHat is to strengthen security (and to prod otherwise reluctant vendors and system administrators into improving their products and practices). Opposite of BlackHat.
