Thomas Bech Pettersen

I work for Computas AS in Norway - and have been working there since 1986.

Computas is a Norwegian company specializing in combining AI, OO and UI technologies to create systems with intelligent capabilities.

I have a M.Sc. degree from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway. During my work at Computas I have gained 13 years of experience with knowledge engineering including knowledge acquisition and representation, rule based systems, case based reasoning and model based diagnosis with implementation tools like Smalltalk, Gensym’s G2, Neuron Data’s Smart Elements, Lisp, KEE, etc. I have also participated in European research projects working on methodologies for knowledge acquisition and modeling in a real-time environment. Current interests lie in the field of work process assistance (as opposed to workflow) and introduction of work process assistance in various fields (government, finance, engineering, H&R, etc.).

Currently we are using VisualAge Smalltalk and GemStone for implementation, having created a very flexible framework for implementing knowledge based work process assistance systems - FrameSolution?/Sara (TM). Right now (spring 2001), we're implementing a knowledge based work process assistance system for the Norwegian lower courts and appeals courts. In Dec 99, we fielded a similar application for the Norwegian Supreme Court. Since 1996, the Norwegian Police and Public Prosecution Authority have been keen users of a similar system for handling all Norwegian criminal case proceedings - with great results.
