There Are No Conspiracies

People just aren't smart enough to keep up conspiracies for very long, so in fact ThereAreNoConspiracies. There are only dupes who have been tricked into believing themselves part of or victims of a conspiracy. To understand social movements, think about the individuals leading, financing, and taking part in them, not elaborate ideologies and fantastic monsters.

In Labyrinths, by JorgeLuisBorges, there is a story on this subject, 'The Lottery in Babylon'. Most stories in the collection allude to The Conspiracy but in this one is the heart of it.

Originally in Babylon a lottery was instituted to amuse the people, who led rigid, highly ordered lives. Over time this developed into a secret Company, which drew lots to change peoples lives in subtle and unforseen ways. Gradually the point becomes clear: all random events in our everyday lives are traced to conspirators who run the Lottery, even though no proof of its existence remains. What finally convinced the people of Babylon all of this is real was these words scrawled on a scrap of paper: ' It has not ever existed and will not ever exist. '.

Look here, Merel of rr.com. I was once almost certain that you were just a cover for the super secret Wiki steering group. As nobody could truly believe most of what you wrote, there had to be an ulterior motive. Then you almost had me convinced that you were merely a one man stirring group. At first I was indecisive ... then I couldn't make up my mind. Now I'm beginning to get it. The confusion is all part of the grand plan to render all other intelligent life senseless and docile, isn't it? Are you even conscious of what you're doing? Or are you merely another dupe, a pawn, programmed in some dastardly hybrid scripting language (without closures no doubt)?
