Yes, there were actually a couple of seasons of a StarTrek animated series in the Seventies. It was actually reasonably good.
One of the episodes, "The Slaver Weapon," is adapted from the story "The Soft Weapon" by LarryNiven.
For what it's worth (i.e. for Trekkies who care about such things), the animated series is not considered "canon"--i.e. it never happened. (Or, it never will happen). It's just fiction, unlike that episode of TNG where the Enterprise crew are turned into children--that is canon, and thus an integral part of the Star Trek universe.
Here's a list of the episodes (StarTrek prepended in needed cases):
Season 1
Yesteryear
Season 1, episode 2 of StarTrekAnimatedSeries, written by D. C. Fontana

This time, the tribbles are supposed to be genetically altered to not reproduce, but they do end up growing extremely large. The Klingons, due to their hatred of tribbles, are anxious to get CyranoJones? back due to the fact that he stole a creature they created - a predator that feeds on tribbles.
The Magicks of Megas-Tu
