Montreal Patterns Group Meeting Report 21 November 1998

Group Start (11-21-98)

Three people were present at the first meeting of the newly created "Montreal Pattern Discussion Group":

The purpose of this meeting was to start a discussion group in Montreal. This group will give each member a way to improve his knowledge on software design patterns and, in general, all patterns linked to software development.

The meeting date was Saturday November 21, 1998 at 1 PM at UQAM building (Metro Place-des-Arts). The discussion was mostly around meeting organization and contents of next meetings. One way to start up is by reviewing some of the most widely known design patterns. Good ideas for a learning-oriented group can be found at http://industriallogic.com/papers/learning.html. After a while, we hope to get into patterns theory and Alexander's stuff, but we need to get to know each other first and wait for people to do the readings.

Three organizational needs were identified for the next meeting:

We will be opened to all patterns related to software development, software process and management. No prerequisites are expected from members and all pattern's related discussions are welcome. The date and the content of the next meeting will be usually defined at the end of the current meeting, but a member can propose a new subject, which could replace the planned one, at any time.

Next Meeting (12-10-98)

The next meeting is planned for the Thursday December 10, 1998 at 6 PM. The purpose is to study all the "Creational Patterns" of the GOF book. The discussion is expected to be on GOF Patterns and related articles and experiences.
