Johannes Brahms

German composer, 1833-1897. Among his works: 4 symphonies, the German Requiem, 2 piano concertos, much chamber music, numerous works for solo piano, and many art songs (Lieder). One of the "Three B's": Bach, Beethoven and Brahms. Continued the German symphonic tradition that had its first high point with Mozart, and continued with Beethoven, Schubert and Schumann. -- JohnWebber
