Information Resource ManagementInformationResourceManagement (IRM) had been a very old term for people working on EnterpriseApplications.
This area predates the era of EnterpriseResoucePlanning? software.
Over the years the role of the BusinessManager? overseeing the business of InformationManagement has been retitled ChiefInformationOfficer?.
--- In the 1980s, larger companies started to recognize the importance of organization wide information planning, DataManagement, Database architecting, etc.
DataManagement was the largest component of the IRM function and it is focussed on treating data more important than applications (functions).
