A book by JohnSteinbeck. It is set in the Dust Bowl era. It is about a family moving from the Dust Bowl to California to find work, and upon arrival they find there is no work.

An extremely courageous and controversial work in its time, it was the first consistent reflection of America on America during the Great Depression. It earned Steinbeck notoriety, infamy, and several sincere death threats. Also contributed to his earning a Nobel prize.
