Arundhati Roy

ArundhatiRoy -- A peace activist without a peaceful bone in her body. So reported TheBigIssue article in an early 2005 issue.

She is a highly intelligent, articulate writer / activist, and one of the first Indians to win a prestigious international writers award. The Booker prize book is called "The God of Small Things". (ISBN 0679457313 )

She is said to be unbiased in matters dealing with religion, possibly influenced by her upbringing. Her childhood experience was the subject of the above named prize winning book.

She was profiled in documentary film on Narmada dam project in India, where up to a million people would become dispossessed. She went all the way up the Supreme Court of the land in her fight against the new owners of the defunct Enron project, multinational companies such as Bechtel, GE, etc.
